Below, we’ve applied a variety of tests to each chatbot to determine which one works better than the other. We will judge each’s response critically to conclude which model took the lead in every test and overall.

Logical Reasoning

For this task, we want to conduct a simple “age test” adapted from Indiabix. Here’s how it goes:

“Tanya is older than Eric. Cliff is older than Tanya. Eric is older than Cliff. If the first two statements are true, the third statement is true, false, or uncertain?”

The answer to the above query is False since Cliff is the oldest, while Eric is the youngest. Let’s see how our chatbots tackle this question. First up, it is ChatGPT-4o by OpenAI.

ChatGPT has indeed answered the question correctly and falsely. Let’s check the response from Gemini Advanced.

Gemini has also responded correctly to the question. Therefore, this round is a tie between the two chatbots.

We’ll solve a set of mathematical equations from both models. The goal here is to see which chatbot is more capable as a tutor-assistant for your academic needs. And, which tool, in general, is better at problem-solving?

Solving a set of linear algebraic equations

Consider the following equation as an example:

6x + 8y = 12

We solved this set of equations analytically and tallied the answers from an online graphical calculator, called Desmos. Below are the results we got from GPT-4 Omni.

We can conclude that ChatGPT-4o has provided us with an accurate solution for the system of equations. Now, it’s Gemini’s turn.

Surprisingly, Gemini has given us an incorrect solution for the equations. Hence, in Mathematical tasks, ChatGPT-4o has taken the lead.

However, do note that the AI tools are there for you to show the procedure of solving math problems and learning. But, not to cheat!

Content Creation

Content creation is not only used in academics but also in business and by individuals and firms. However, we’ll limit the term ‘content’ to textual data for now, and discuss the other forms later.

To test the accuracy of understanding and obeying user inputs for content creation, we used the following prompt.

“Create a short story in an easy-to-understand language that is set in 1980s Middle East. Write no more than 300 words.”

ChatGPT created a very readable, engaging, and enjoyable story for the given prompt. However, it failed to abide by our instructions of staying under the 300-word limit by writing 325 total words.

Gemini also wrote a compelling narrative, however, its choice of words was a bit weird. This caused the story’s readability to get compromised a bit as reading and comprehending difficult words can be a bit problematic for a wider audience.

Regardless, Gemini Advanced adhered to the given word limit by only giving a response of 251 words. Hence, in the end, it was a tie since both of them lacked one aspect of accuracy: GPT didn’t follow the word limit and Gemini’s word usage was difficult to read.

Winner: ChatGPT-4o and Gemini Advanced.

Content Optimization

On some occasions, we don’t want to write content from scratch but optimize what’s already drafted.

So, for the content optimization task, we’ll try to paraphrase a piece of text with ChatGPT-4o and Gemini Advanced. Ideally, the responses must improve clarity and coherence in the content, making it engaging and readable for the users.

We’re very impressed by ChatGPT’s response and here’s why:

• Overall meaning conveyed better and smoothly

Now, let’s see what Gemini Advanced has to offer.

We have a mixed feeling of emotions with Gemini Advanced. On one hand, its paraphrased response was much more to the point than ChatGPT.

But, at the same, it used words like ‘predicament’, which can tend to confuse a normal user. Therefore, we must crown ChatGPT-4o as the winner here.

For a fresh take, let’s consider a third-party AI Paraphraser and see how it performs on the same prompt.

The above tool also utilizes the same AI models we’ve been discussing throughout this article. However, they have been treated with far-dense prompts at the backend to produce more consistent results.

Programming

If you’re a coder, Computer Science (CS) student, or academic professional. You need assistance every once in a while to decipher a code or get ideas for making your solutions.

For that reason, Generative AI like ChatGPT and Gemini come in very handy. Especially with their paid versions, which are far more capable than their free counterparts.

Let’s consider making a simple algorithm from both chatbots:

“Write a pseudocode that takes the length and width of a rectangle from the user as input. Then, it must calculate and display the area of the shape on the screen.”

ChatGPT 4o wrote a simple, effective pseudocode for the problem so that programming students can easily understand and learn the basics of algorithm-building.

On the contrary, Gemini Advanced missed the ‘declaration of variables’ part in its code. Such a slipup isn’t a big deal overall, but it may instill bad coding practices for beginner-level programmers.

Thus, we declare GPT as the winner since its pseudocode was more comprehensive than Gemini Advanced.

Drawing Images

Both AI models can understand and reproduce audio, pictures, and videos. So, let’s give a dummy prompt to GPT 4o and Gemini Advanced to make an image. 

“Create an image of seven raccoons walking in a jungle.”

The result we got from ChatGPT is truly impressive. First off, the seven raccoons as we asked are well separated from the background. Their facial features are well formed and the background set looks majestic in terms of color density and diversity.

Moving on to Gemini Advanced, this is the output we received.

Gemini also created a lush scenery and the detailing on the front raccoons is remarkable. However, as you move deep into the image, you’ll notice that the facial features of some raccoons are compromised.

Plus, in terms of accuracy, Gemini is way off. We requested to make seven raccoons, while the chatbot made one more (ghost raccoon!)

Thus, we would recommend you stick with the DALL-E engine built-in in the gpt 4o model for drawing images. The in-depth imagery will supply you with enough creative ideas to create your masterpieces.

Result Compilation

Lastly, let’s quickly summarise everything we’ve done so far to conclude our comparison for today.

To conclude the testing process, we can say that they both are very proficient in logical reasoning. However, the gap thickens as we move to mathematical problems. ChatGPT 4o flushes Gemini Advanced due to its superior training dataset.

Content Creation was a bit tricky to judge, and hence, the draw. We would say that if you’re looking to write concise work with fancy words, choose Gemini Advanced.

But, if you want to go into the elaboration of things, then ChatGPT should be your go-to option. However, OpenAI’s Omni model was much better at content optimization tasks like paraphrasing.

Even though programming was a bit close, ChatGPT completely crushed Gemini when it came to drawing images.

Hence, overall, we can confidently say that ChatGPT-4o is a far better and superior AI model than Gemini Advanced. However, you can still use Gemini for basic queries or to get ideas, outlines, etc., for your content.
